Hall i' th' Wood, meaning Hall in the Wood and pronounced 'all-ih-thwud', was built in the 15th century by merchants. Restored by local benefactor Lord Leverhulme, the hall was returned to public ownership in 1902 and now houses a museum about its construction and former residents.
